Kim Il-Sung: The Communist Leader of North Korea

Early Life and Political Career

Kim Il-Sung was born in Pyongyang, North Korea, on April 15, 1912. His father was a prominent anti-Japanese activist, and Kim followed in his footsteps by becoming involved in the struggle for Korean independence. In 1945, after the liberation of Korea from Japanese rule, Kim played a leading role in the formation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), also known as North Korea.

Leadership of North Korea

Kim Il-Sung became the leader of North Korea in 1948 and maintained a tight grip on power until his death in 1994. During his reign, he established a communist dictatorship and pursued policies that promoted self-sufficiency and military strength. Kim also implemented a strict and pervasive personality cult that centered around himself and his family.

War and Division

In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea, sparking the Korean War. The war ended in a stalemate in 1953, and Korea remains divided along the 38th parallel. Kim Il-Sung continued to rule North Korea until his death in 1994, and was succeeded by his son, Kim Jong-il.
