Tributes have been paid to a councillor who died suddenly while attending the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton.
Alan Sykes, 69, was a Labour councillor for the Park ward in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
He was found dead in his hotel room on Monday morning.
Sykes was a well-respected figure in the community and had served as a councillor for more than 20 years.
He was also a passionate campaigner for social justice and equality.
Flags at council buildings in Oldham will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.
Council leader Sean Fielding said: "Alan was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the people of Oldham.
"He will be sadly missed by all who knew him."
Lib Dem leader Ed Davey said: "Alan was a valued member of our party and a great friend to many of us.
"He will be deeply missed."
The cause of Sykes' death is not yet known.
